Umbria, one of the smallest regions of Italy, is located in the heart of the peninsula and is the only region not washed by the sea.
The region is famous for a variety of aspects: history, heritage and cultural, traditions and a beautiful landscape. During a visit to Umbria you will absolutely see the city of:
- Perugia: the regional capital, stands on a hill in the valley of the Tiber. Rich in history and monuments is also an important cultural and economic destination of many tourists and students.
The Perugia today made an extraordinary result of the various artistic influences from which it was modeled during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Visit Piazza IV Novembre, one of the most beautiful squares in Italy and the Fontana Maggiore formed by two overlapping polygonal tanks, the Palace with in the National Gallery of Umbria, the Cathedral of St. Lorenzo, the Church of San Domenico with the important in the National Archaeological Museum of Umbria. Do not forget also the walls of large boulders that are home to the magnificent Port Almond, Etruscan Porta Marzia Arch decorated with a frieze of shields alternating with pillars, which is the main access road.
- Assisi: the main religious center of the region because they lived San Francesco and Santa Chiara.
The modern city was built without affecting the structure of the ancient city: a series of roads connecting the various squares in different layers and guardians of all the city’s history. Visit the Basilica of San Francesco, the Church of Santa Chiara, the Temple of Minerva, the palace “Capitano del Popolo” and the imposing Rocca Maggiore, just outside the city walls.
- Gubbio: the center’s oldest, was built on blocks of limestone, so the name of “gray city”. Gubbio has a repetitive but beautiful landscape. Visit the Church of San Francesco, Piazza Grande, the main center of town, the Palazzo dei Consoli, the Palace del Capitolo, the Cathedral and the Church of Santa Maria dei Servi.
- Todi, Spoleto, Terni, Norcia and Castiglione del Lago: charming towns full of architectural beauty.
Do not miss the Clitunno sources, the Regional Park of Mount Subasio and Lake Trasimeno obviously a fabulous natural setting of water and trees.
