The local area is filled with places of interest; from medieval towns to sea resorts and the unique mountain environment of Monte Amiata (home of the largest chesnut farms in central Italy). In these and many other places you can absorb the history and culture of the region as you visit castles, medieval borghi and great centres of the arts. You may also wish to explore the food and wine of the area; try traditional dishes and local ingredients along with DOC wines in the many local restaurants and trattorias, which will make your holiday in the heart of Tuscany an unforgettable experience.

Nearby Towns: Castel Del Piano is one of the 6 major villages (along with Arcidosso, Santa Fiora, Piancastagnaio, Abbadia San Salvatore, and Seggiano) surrounding Monte Amiata. They are all of medieval origin and are all worth a visit. Particular mention has to be given to the castel of Arcidosso (can be visited) and the quaint historical center of Santa Fiora. A little further out you find the well-known towns of Montalcino, Montepulciano and Pienza. A little further away (1 and 1/2 hours driving) the tourist can visit the astonishing town of Siena, full of art and history.
Art Sites: each of the villages and towns around Castel del Piano have historical monuments that can be visited. Montalcino and Pienza hold probably the most rich collection of renaissance buildings and churches. One particular mention goes to the famous Sant'Antimo abbey, on the road to Montalcino. Not enough words can be spent on the magnificent town of Siena, for which several days of visit need to be planned.
Special Events: the 2nd of July and the 16th of August, do not miss the unforgettable Palio di Siena; an ancient horse race that has been held twice a year since 1664. The Palio di Siena is without doubt the most important event of the year in Tuscany. The 8th of September there is also the Palio delle Contrade in Castel del Piano, a smaller version of the Palio di Siena that is the central event for all the citizens of the village. In October the village of Arcidosso organizes a Chesnut Feast that celebrates the central element of the economy of the Monte Amiata area. During the feast there is always free food and wine.
Seaside: at 50 km from Castel del Piano there are several seaside resort and free beaches. The most well known are marina di Grosseto, Alberese, and Punta Ala. Further south you can reach the Argentario bluffs, from which a small ferry can bring tourists to the delightful island of Giglio.
Food and Wine: a lot can be said of the food and wine of this area. Several small and authentic restaurants populate the area around Monte Amiata. The most typical dishes are based on Porcini mushrooms, wild boar meat, chestnuts and pecorino (a cheese made out of sheep's milk). The beef raised in this area is all free range and it is of exquisite quality. Several types of wine are produced in the sourrounding estates. The most well known are Rosso di Montalcino (from which Brunello is made) and Morellino di Scansano.
Hot and curative Springs: less than 50 km away the intrepid explorer can find two main hot and curative spring resorts; Bagno Vignoni and Saturnia.

DIRECTIONS

Car: from Grosseto take the state freeway SS223. Drive for around 18 km until the exit for Paganico. Drive through the small medieval town of Paganico and continue on the provicial road SP64. Drive around 23 Km until entering the town of Castel del Piano. Keep driving until the central square (Piazza Garibaldi) that can be recognized by the towering obelisque at its center. From the square turn into Via delle Miniere. Drive for 50 meters and turn a sharp right into Via del Noceto. Drive another 100 meters until destination.
Nearest Airports: From the north Pisa Airport "San Giusto" (~210 km). From the south Roma Fiumicino "Leonardo Da Vinci" (~220 km)

Each apartment can host up to 4 people and has a large living area, dining area, fireplace, full kitchen and showers in each bathroom.

GENERAL APARTMENT RULES

Check In: between 4:00 p.m.and 7:30 pm. Please specify in the reservation if a late check-in is expected.
Check Out: between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 am
Pets: not allowed
Smoking: the entire residence is a strictly non-smoking area
Cleaning: The apartment is provided to the Client in a clean and tidy condition. The Client is supposed to return the apartment in the same state at the end of the renting period. This includes disposal of rubbish and cleaning of all kitchen equipment. Alternatively you may prefer to pay for a cleaning service upon departure at the cost of Euro 35.00
Deposit: A security deposit of Euro 200.00 is payable on arrival and refundable on departure less any charges for breakage/damage/cleaning
Amenities: the use of garden areas is allowed until 10:30 pm

Reservations: accepted either by phone or e-mail. Will be confirmed upon receiving full credit card details
Deposit: 30% of the apartment rental fee is payable upon booking confirmation with the balance to be paid 45 days before the beginning of the rental period. Full payment is required for bookings made 30 days before the beginning of the rental period.
Cancellation policy: A charge of 30% of rental fee is applicable for cancellations made 30 days or less before the start of the rental period. On other ends, should the villa be re-let to third parties for the rental period, then 90% of the rental fee will be refunded. In the case of no shows without notice the full rental fee would be forfeited.
Taxes: sales tax is included. City/tourist tax not applicable
